London, ON – London International Airport proudly supported the Women in Aviation: Great Lakes Aviators Canada Chapter as they held their second annual Girls in Aviation Day on June 3, 2025. This incredible event is designed to inspire the next generation of women in aviation, aerospace, and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics).

More than 800 girls in grades 6 to 8 from four local school boards participated in the event, where they had the unique opportunity to get up close to aircraft and engage with interactive stations led by women professionals across the aviation and STEAM sectors.

Girls in Aviation Day is unique because it empowers high school, college, and university students to take on leadership roles, guiding and inspiring elementary students through a hands-on, aviation-focused experience.

“At London International Airport, we are proud to support educational initiatives that inspire future career pathways in aviation and beyond. We are sincerely grateful to our partners for their collaboration and dedication in making this meaningful day possible for students and local school boards,” said Laura Shepherd, Director of Operations at London International Airport and member of Women in Aviation International – Great Lakes Aviators Canada Chapter.

The event’s success was made possible through the collaboration of over 40 local and industry partners, including Western University, Fanshawe College, Executive Aviation, Diamond Flight Centre, Jazz Aviation, Air Canada, Air Transat, Airshow London, Nav Canada, MFC Training, Jet Aircraft Museum, and many more leaders in aviation and aerospace.

“We’re incredibly grateful to our industry partners, London International Airport, and dedicated volunteers whose support and involvement make this day possible. Our goal is to inspire and ignite interest in aviation and aerospace careers among girls. Each station is designed to be interactive, creating engaging and memorable experiences that build confidence and encourage future pursuits in aviation and aerospace fields, ” Chapter Vice President, Laura Briscoe.
